This Deliberative Conversation focused on Race and the U.S. Constitution. Chief Diversity Officer Elliott Dawes led the framing of the conversation, which was moderated by Dr. Rhianna C. Rogers.
Conversation Description
The United States in
2020 is, in important ways, a VERY different country from the one the
Constitutional framers envisioned. The issue of race/race relations in
the US was not solved by the framers nor was it resolved by the American
Civil War. As a result, unaddressed racial issues in the US is one of
the most pressing topics in the country today. Our historical and
cultural inheritance includes the unresolved legacy of those early
racial dilemmas as well as additional, complex racial issues that we are
confronting as a nation on a daily basis in the COVID era. This
Constitution Day Deliberative Conversation will explore these issues and
discuss ways that we can move towards actionable change.
