According to a 2016 study by the Pew Research Center, the “digital
divide” is no longer a question about access to technology but of
digital skills and trust in its use. What is the current climate in the
use of technology in higher education now that the terms "digital
literacy" and "digital fluency" are used interchangeably to address how
students engage as digital learners and creators in the 21st century? In
this presentation, Educational Technologists Carolina Kim and Mike
Fortune touch on current trends in higher education that address
digital literacy and will highlight ways faculty at ESC
can increase their own digital literacy that, in turn, will help their
students' success as digital citizens. Topics such as Internet of Things
(IoT) and the 2016 New Media Consortium (NMC) Horizon Project Strategic
Brief on Digital Literacy are discussed.
